Welcome to the Sackville Curling Club. My name is ________ and I am one of the volunteer(s) (Director) here at the SCC. We are excited to share our love of curling and facilities with you. Your safety and comfort are of utmost importance so I am going to just take a moment of your time to review a few features of our facility.
Washrooms are located downstairs. Women in the women’s change room and men, on your right just before entering the men’s change room. There are also washrooms to your left as you go into the banquet hall. (Today we have a rental in that space so we ask that you use the downstairs washrooms.)
In case of an emergency requiring evacuation please note there are two doors in the ice shed leading directly outside. From here in the lounge, there are three potential exits: stairs to the main door, emergency outside stairwell by phone, and the door/stairwell from the banquet hall. In the case of an evacuation, we would ask that you all meet in the parking lot promptly so that everyone can be accounted for.
The AED defib and first aid kit are located there (point) on the wall.
The bar will be open throughout your event. Please be reminded however that like drinking and driving, drinking and sliding increases the risk of accidents… and we don’t want that.
Thank you for your attention and good curling!
All members must fully read this document and sign the bottom portion before registering or participating in any of the Sackville Curling Club’s Curling Programs.
I will help prevent concussions by:
● Wearing the proper equipment for my sport and wearing it correctly.
● Developing my skills and strength so that I can participate to the best of my ability.
● Respecting the rules of my sport or activity.
● Respecting the safety rules of the Sackville Curling Club.
● My commitment to fair play and respect for all (respecting other members, coaches, trainers, volunteers and staff).
I will care for my health and safety by taking concussions seriously, and I understand that:
● A concussion is a brain injury that can have both short- and long-term effects.
● A blow to my head, face or neck, or a blow to the body that causes the brain to move around inside the skull may cause a concussion.
● I don’t need to lose consciousness to have had a concussion.
● I have a commitment to concussion recognition and reporting, including self-reporting of possible concussion and reporting to an emergency contact when an individual suspects that another individual may have sustained a concussion.
● If I think I might have a concussion I should stop participating in further training, practice or competition immediately.
● Continuing to participate in further training, practice or competition with a possible concussion increases my risk of more severe, longer lasting symptoms, and increases my risk of other injuries.
By signing here, I acknowledge that I have fully reviewed, understand and commit to this Concussion Code of Conduct and, commit to operating within the parameters of the SCC Concussion Code of Conduct.

Helmet Policy Background:
“Even with the seriousness of a potential injury, Curling Canada, as a National Sports Organization (NSO), can’t mandate helmet use as each club operates independently.”
(2023)”This fall, a new set of helmet recommendations and concussion guidelines for Youth Curling at Curling Canada events will be rolled out. Head protection will be mandatory for all participants aged 11 and under and strongly recommended for those aged 12 and over, especially if they are new to the sport or not yet proficient on the ice.”
The Sackville Curling Club is committed to the safety of all members and non-members who curl at our Club. Our Helmet Policy follows the helmet use recommendations of Curling Canada.
*****
For Curlers Under the Age of 12 (U12):
1. Helmets are mandatory.
2. Helmets must be CSA – approved, and can be a skating, hockey, snowboarding, or skiing helmet.
3. The helmet is to be secured on the curler’s head prior to entering the arena, remain on for the duration of play, and not be removed until they have exited the arena.
4. It is the parent(s) or guardian(s) or Learn to Curl participants responsibility to ensure the helmet is secured properly.
For Curlers Aged 12 and Over:
It is highly recommended that all curlers aged 12 and over wear a properly fitted and secured helmet while curling at the Sackville Curling Club.
Our curling facility gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Canadian Curling Association through its Curling Assistance Program.
